Health Promotion - Health for All

In listening to the podcast with Dr. Will Ross, I was really struck with his passion for the use of the words Health Equity, and for the push that we all, especially those in the health professions, honestly get on board to promote health equity for all. I agree with his statement that all individuals  have the right to obtain their highest health potential. I really love that statement "to obtain their highest health potential".  He really reminded me that I am part of this plan. I am a social change agent for helping to create a healthier community right here in Memphis. He quoted Kenneth M. Ludmerer, who wrote, A Time To Heal. Kenneth says, "Our existence is dependent upon our ability to improve the health of the community." I had to stop the podcast and replay it because I had to hear that again. It is such a powerful statement one that if we all took it to heart and did even one small thing to improve the lives of those in our community, those combined small actions would amount to a big shift in improved health for all.
At the moment with all that is happening with COVID-19  I have not been able to teach my weekly yoga class out at the barn and I am feeling not very useful to my community. Hearing the words of both Dr. Ross and Kenneth Ludmerer, reminded me that change can start with a small act that grows. Teaching health promotion via yoga is important and helpful. I have had a couple people reach out asking if I would be interested in teaching via zoom and that is just what I need to do to get this ball rolling again. Of course, as an OT student I would like to continue to find ways to help promote the importance of health for all on a broader level, but for the moment and do to our current situation, I will start with this one action.
